MINNESOTA, 7 June 2005 — Carlos Silva scattered seven hits over seven innings while Jacque Jones and Michael Ryan had three hits and two RBI apiece as the Minnesota Twins beat the slumping New York Yankees 9-3 in Minneapolis on Sunday.
Silva (4-3) allowed single runs in the first two innings but settled down after that to help send the Yankees to their seventh loss in eight games.
New York allowed five runs in the sixth inning and slipped to 0-20 in games where they have scored three or fewer runs this season.
Silva allowed two runs while striking out one and walking none before three relievers finished up to complete the nine-hitter.
Matthew LeCroy and Luis Rodriguez both added two hits and one RBI to the Twins 14-hit attack, while Michael Cuddyer also had a pair of hits and scored two runs.
In other games, Daniel Cabrera pitched seven solid innings as the Baltimore Orioles beat the Tigers 6-2 in Detroit.
Cabrera (5-4) allowed two runs on five hits and struck out four. Melvin Mora had two hits and drove in two runs for the Orioles.
In Boston, Kevin Millar had two hits and drove in one run as the Red Sox beat the Los Angeles Angels 6-3.
Mike Myers (3-1) got two outs for the win. Keith Foulke pitched one inning for his 13th save.
In Kansas City, Kenny Rogers pitched seven solid innings as the Texas Rangers beat the Royals 8-1. Rogers (8-2) allowed one run on five hits, walking two and striking out three. Mark Teixeira and David Dellucci homered for the Rangers.
In Seattle, Bret Boone had two hits and drove in two runs as the Mariners beat the Tampa Bay Devil Rays 6-5. Ron Villone (2-2) pitched one inning, allowing one hit for the win.
In Oakland, Danny Haren pitched seven strong innings as the Athletics thumped the Toronto Blue Jays 12-4. Haren (3-7) allowed two runs on four hits and striking out four. Marco Scutaro, Eric Chavez and Scott Hatteberg homered for the Athletics.
In Chicago, Grady Sizemore scored the winning run on an error as the Cleveland Indians beat the White Sox 6-4 in 12 innings. David Riske (2-2) pitched two innings, allowing one hit for the win. Coco Crisp and Travis Hafner homered for the Indians.
