TORONTO, 15 June 2005 — Roy Halladay tossed a complete-game five-hitter for his 10th victory of the season as the Toronto Blue Jays beat the St. Louis Cardinals 4-1 in Interleague play at the Rogers Center on Monday.

Halladay (10-3) has won six of his last seven starts to move into a tie with Chicago’s Jon Garland for the AL lead in wins.

He also leads the league in complete games with five. It was the 28-year-old’s 20th career complete game, as the 2003 Cy Young Award winner continues his comeback after arm problems plagued him most of last season.

Halladay struck out five and walked none.

Shea Hillenbrand homered for the Blue Jays, who snapped a four-game losing streak in their first home game following a 4-9 road trip.

In other games, Matt Clement pitched eight solid innings as the Red Sox beat the Cincinnati Reds 10-3 in Boston, as the teams met for the first time since the 1975 World Series.

Clement (7-1) allowed three runs on six hits, walking one and striking out nine. Manny Ramirez hit a three run homer for the Red Sox.

In St Petersburg, Florida, Doug Waechter pitched eight strong innings as the Tampa Bay Devil Rays beat the Milwaukee Brewers 5-3.

Waechter (3-3) allowed three runs on eight hits, walking one and striking out six.

Danys Baez pitched one inning for his eighth save and Travis Lee and Jonny Gomes both homered for the Devil Rays.

In Baltimore, Larry Bigbie homered and had three hits as the Orioles beat the Houston Astros 8-5. Hayden Penn (1-0) pitched 5 2/3 innings, allowing five runs on seven hits, walking two and striking out one for the win.

B.J. Ryan pitched one inning for his 17th save and Jay Gibbons also homered for the Orioles.

In Chicago, Shawn Estes pitched a complete-game eight hitter and Luis Gonzalez hit a three-run homer as the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the White Sox 8-1.

Estes (5-4) allowed one run while striking out five. Chris Snyder, Troy Glaus and Shawn Green all homered for the Diamondbacks.

In Arlington, Alfonso Soriano homered twice as the Texas Rangers beat the Atlanta Braves 7-3. Chris Young (6-3) pitched seven innings, allowing two hits, walking one and striking out seven. Hank Blalock homered for the Rangers.

In Anaheim, Vladimir Guerrero homered, had four hits and drove in five runs as the Los Angeles Angels ended the Washington Nationals’ 10-game winning streak with an 11-1 thrashing. Paul Byrd (6-5) allowed one run on four hits over six innings, striking out three and walking one for the win.

Willis Notches 11th Win as Marlins Crush Cubs

In New York, Dontrelle Willis pitched seven strong innings for his major league leading 11th win of the season as the Florida Marlins beat the Chicago Cubs 9-1 at Wrigley Field in the sole National League game played on Monday.

Willis (11-2) allowed one run on seven hits with five strikeouts and no walks, lowering his ERA to 2.06. One of the better hitting pitchers in baseball, Willis also helped his own cause with two hits and an RBI.

The Marlins broke a 1-1 tie by scoring seven runs in the fifth, chasing Chicago starter John Koronka from the game. Paul Lo Duca and Alex Gonzalez each had two-run doubles in the fifth inning for the Marlins, giving Willis all the help he would need.

Miguel Cabrera also drove in a pair of runs for the Marlins and Luis Castillo hit a solo home run.

Koronka (1-2) allowed six runs on seven hits in 4 1/3 innings and took the loss.

Aramis Ramirez had two hits and drove in the lone run for the Cubs.
