Continuing to dominate the Saudi mobile PC market, Acer Computer (ME) Ltd has increased its share of all notebooks sold in the Kingdom for the first three months of 2005 from 26.3 percent to 33.8 percent, a year-on-year rise of 7.5 percent from the previous year according to researchers at global analyst house IDC.

With sales of 20,554 units during January, February and March, Acer pulled away from Toshiba and HP, ranked second and third respectively. A third of all laptops sold in Saudi Arabia are Acer products.

“These results once again show that our strategy of providing the latest in technology at attractive pricing points is proving to be extremely popular with end-users,” said Philip Ashkar, marketing manager, Acer Computer (ME) Ltd. “We are winning major tenders in the business arena, our products are winning plaudits in the government sector and consumers love our unique software bundle offers.”

Experiencing three-fold growth in laptop sales during 2004, Acer has also been gaining market share in the desktop personal computer sector to be ranked in the No. 2 spot with sales of 10,427 for the first quarter of 2005.

“Quarter after quarter, we are seeing our numbers grow at a rapid rate. Much of this is thanks to our Saudi distribution and retail partners, who have utilized their extensive knowledge of the market to tailor packages that meet the needs of both businesses and consumers,” added Ashkar.

Through its commitment to an indirect sales approach, Acer has developed a flexible distribution model ensuring that its partners have stock to meet market demand.
