TORONTO, 25 June 2005 — Jorge Cantu belted a pair of two-run homers and drove in a career-high four runs as the Tampa Bay Devil Rays dumped the New York Yankees 9-4 on Thursday, capping a successful visit to the Bronx with three wins in four.

Mark Hendrickson (3-4) took credit for the victory, surrendering four runs on nine hits in 7 2/3 innings of work as the Devil Rays improved to 7-3 against the Yankees this season. Danys Baez worked out of bases loaded jam in the eighth then returned in the ninth to get the final three outs to nail down the win and his 12th save of the season.

Cantu opened the scoring with a two-run homer to deep right and added another two-run blast in the third as the Devil Rays never trailed, although the Yankees came back each time to tie the game at 2-2 and 4-4.

Tampa Bay took the lead for good in the fifth when Nick Green scored on an error by Derek Jeter.

Chien-Ming Wang (4-3) was tagged with the loss, allowing six runs — five earned — on eight hits over six innings.

Bernie Williams homered and had two RBIs for the Yankees, who have dropped into another slump in losing three-of-four following a six-game winning run.

In Toronto, Roy Halladay delivered eight solid innings and Orlando Hudson drove in three runs, leading the Blue Jays past the Baltimore Orioles 6-2.

Halladay (11-4) turned in another dominant effort on the mound for the Jays, giving up two runs on seven hits, striking out eight without a walk to post his seventh win in nine decisions.

Hudson finished two-for-three with a run scored while Alex Rios also had an RBI and a run scored.

Aaron Hill and Eric Hinske each had two hits and two runs scored as the Blue Jays took three of four games from the AL East leading Orioles.

Sidney Ponson (7-5) absorbed the loss surrendering six runs on 11 hits in 5 1?3 innings of work.

In Seattle, Kirk Saarloos tossed a four-hit shutout and Scott Hatteberg had four hits and an RBI as the Oakland Athletics blanked the Mariners 5-0 to register their fifth win in six games.

Saarloos (4-4) dominated striking out seven without a walk to collect his second career shutout.

Hatteberg, Nick Swisher, Bobby Kielty and Dan Johnson each had an RBI for the Athletics while Eric Chavez scored three runs.

Ryan Franklin (3-9) was saddled with the loss giving up five runs on 11 hits in 6 2?3 innings of work. Kielty’s third inning sacrifice fly put the Athletics in front 1-0. Two innings later the leftfielder hit into a double play scoring Chavez putting Oakland up 2-0.

In Minneapolis, Carlos Silva tossed a complete game and Matthew LeCroy homered and drove in three runs as the Minnesota Twins tamed the Detroit Tigers 6-2 to snap a season high four-game losing streak.

Silva (6-3) scattered nine hits allowing two runs while striking out two without a walk to earn the win.

The Twins charged to a 4-0 first inning lead capitalising on a bases-loaded wild pitch from Tigers starter Jason Johnson to score two runs.

LeCroy then followed with a bloop single scoring two more runs.

Johnson (5-6) was tagged with the loss giving up six runs - five earned - on nine hits in 5 2/3 innings of work.
