CAIRO, 27 June 2005 — It is now definite that Egyptian folk-singer Hakim has signed a new contract with the production company, Alam El Phan. The company has taken the responsibility of producing his new album, in addition to his future album which features the songs from his first film,“Ali Spicy.” The premier of the film “Ali Spicy,” starring Hakim and actress Summaya Al Khashab recently took place in Cairo.

The film, produced by the Arab Company for Production and Distribution, is Hakim’s debut as an actor.

The plot centers around a medical student and passionate singer, Ali, who attempts to heal his patients with music. Ali is from a conservative part of Egypt, and must lie to his father when he fails to complete his degree. He tells his father he is already a doctor, when in reality he is still seeking to become a superstar.

Hakim said that he had also received a very attractive offer from the production company Rotana, but had turned it down, stressing that he preferred to sign with an Egyptian company.

On a different note, Hakim is currently preparing to record a new duet with an international singer, something he hopes will spread his popularity around the world. The latest duet was with American singer James Brown in the song “Laiali” (Nights.)
