CAIRO, 27 June 2005 — After endless negotiations, international Lebanese/Columbian singer Shakira has finally agreed to hold a concert in Cairo at the end of August.
The Arab satellite channel Infinity and the Egyptian radio network tried to reach an agreement with the singer to hold a concert last year, but all attempts failed due to Shakira’s busy schedule.
Negotiations were renewed this year, and the singer finally agreed, but with a number of conditions. Shakira insisted that she would only sign a contract with an international company to sponsor the event and ensure that her financial demands were fully met. The Arab parties agreed to her conditions and demands without hesitations and plans are currently underway for the big event that will be considered a highlight of the summer season.
Shakira expressed interest in holding a concert in Egypt especially since she enjoys great popularity there. Attempts are underway to find an Egyptian or another Arab singer to sing alongside Shakira.
The Music Production Company Rotana also held negotiations with Shakira to hold concerts in Egypt and a number of other Arab countries.
