JEDDAH, 11 July 2005 — Pakistan has made a voluntary contribution of $1 million to the budget of the General Secretariat of the Organization of the Islamic Conference.

“This generous contribution, which follows similar gestures by Turkey, Malaysia, Qatar and Kuwait, is a concrete expression of the support of Pakistan to the OIC,” a statement issued by OIC said. “It will give the General Secretariat considerable strength in pursuing its reform agenda as well as in the implementation of its duties toward member states as also the Islamic Ummah,” it added.

It explained that the transfer of the voluntary contribution was effected during the 32nd Islamic Conference of Foreign Ministers held in the Yemeni capital Sanaa, and was announced by Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf when he received Secretary General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu and members of the OIC Commission of Eminent Persons in Islamabad recently.

Earlier, Turkish Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul announced a contribution of $1 million to the OIC General Secretariat.
