From a tough life, poverty and orphanhood, Coco Chanel made her way to the glamour of the fashion world. She created a name now so iconic that it has become a reference to people in the industry. Despite thirty years since her passing, many fashion-loving women searching for elegance and youth are attracted to her brand name and the style it entails.

New York City is celebrating Chanel by hosting an exhibition to showcase the products in her name from; perfumes to bags.

Chanel not only created a revolution in the fashion world, but pioneered a new design for women after the liberation of women from tight and heavy clothes of the last century. These heavy clothes not only inhibited movement but the personal expression of women something Chanel wanted to change. Chanel stated, “I wanted to feel light. I wanted to run and to resemble nature’s continuous movements and life. This is what women wished when I was young.”

The exhibition included designer clothes dating back from the early 20’s to this date. Chanel is considered one of the only remaining fashion companies keeping its name after the death of its founder. Its continued innovation and elegance have not faded with the passing of its creator many decades ago and the shine of Chanel is still as bright as ever.

Selected Coco Chanel Quotations

• Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.

• A fashion that does not reach the streets is not a fashion.

• Fashion is made to become unfashionable.

• Elegance is refusal.

• Luxury must be comfortable, otherwise it is not luxury.

• I don’t understand how a woman can leave the house without fixing herself up a little — if only out of politeness. And then, you never know, maybe that’s the day she has a date with destiny. And it’s best to be as pretty as possible for destiny.

• A woman has the age she deserves.

• Fashion is architecture: It is a matter of proportions.

• Fashion has become a joke. The designers have forgotten that there are women inside the dresses. Most women dress for men and want to be admired. But they must also be able to move, to get into a car without bursting their seams! Clothes must have a natural shape.

• Since everything is in our heads, we had better not lose them.

• There is no time for cut-and-dried monotony. There is time for work. And time for love. That leaves no other time.
