KANDAHAR, 3 August 2005 — Taleban insurgents beheaded three Afghans yesterday after accusing them of spying for US forces, a Taleban spokesman said.
The trio, aged between 30 and 35, were beheaded in Ghazni province southwest of the capital, Abdul Latif Hakimi told Reuters.
Officials in Ghazni province, once one of the Taleban’s main bastions, were not immediately available for comment.
Ousted by US-led forces in late 2001, Taleban guerrillas have beheaded and hanged several people on charges of spying for the US forces.
They are waging a campaign against the government and foreign forces mostly in southern and eastern parts of Afghanistan, where hundreds of people, including 36 American troops, have died this year alone, the bloodiest period since the Taleban’s fall.
