TORONTO, 8 August 2005 — Shea Hillenbrand homered, had three RBIs and stole home to lead the Toronto Blue Jays to an 8-5 victory over the New York Yankees on Saturday.

Frank Menechino also homered while Vernon Wells had three hits and two RBIs for Toronto in their American League game at the Rogers Center in Toronto.

Yankees starter Randy Johnson gave up two runs in each of the first two innings and was forced from the game after just four innings, his second shortest outing of the season.

The 41-year-old lefthander was rocked for six runs on 10 hits, striking out three and walking one.

“Everything I threw today, they hit,” said Johnson. Gary Sheffield homered for the second consecutive game for the Yankees while Derek Jeter went 3-for-5 with two RBIs.

Toronto’s Pete Walker got the win after pitching 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief.

In Minneapolis, Michael Cuddyer scored the winning run on Mike Timlin’s ninth-inning throwing error as the Minnesota Twins rallied past the Boston Red Sox 4-3.

Down 3-0, the Twins rallied for three runs in the sixth highlighted by Joe Mauer’s two-run single before Cuddyer scored from second on Timlin’s wild throw to first base on Nick Punto’s sacrifice bunt.

Joe Nathan (4-3) pitched a scoreless ninth to earn the win while Timlin (4-2) was credited with the loss.

In Arlington, David Dellucci had a grand slam and Hank Blalock and Mark Teixeira also homered to lead the Texas Rangers to a 10-3 victory over the Baltimore Orioles.

Delluci’s grand slam highlighted a six-run second innings for the Rangers before they added four more runs in the fourth, with Teixeira’s 30th homer of the season a two-run blast. John Wasdin (1-1) got the win giving up two runs on six hits in six innings of work before Kameron Loe worked the final three innings to get the save.

In Chicago, the White Sox stormed to a 3-0 first inning lead highlighted by Paul Konerko’s 26th homer of the season, a two-run blast over the left field wall, then rode Mark Buehrle’s pitching to a 4-2 win over the Seattle Mariners.

In Detroit, Jake Westbrook pitched seven solid innings as the Cleveland Indians tamed the Tigers 4-2. Westbrook (10-12) yielded two runs on four hits, walked one and equalled a career-high eight strikeouts to claim his fourth straight decision before Bob Wickman worked a scoreless ninth to clinch the win and his 30th save. The Indians pounded out 14 hits but could score just four runs, with Jhonny Peralta hitting a homer while Grady Sizemore, Travis Hafner and Ben Broussard each had an RBI. In Kansas City, Nick Swisher and Dan Johnson homered while Mark Ellis drove in four runs leading the red-hot Oakland Athletics to a 16-1 demolition of the Royals. Eric Chavez, Jay Payton and Bobby Kielty each had three hits and two RBIs as the Athletics pounded out 18 hits on the way to their 16th win.
