Safe Computing Advisory Campaign

Trend Micro Middle East has begun a “Safe Computing Advisory Campaign” focused on consumers during the summer holiday season. The security drive is designed to highlight the importance of updating software protection on personal computers throughout the home upon returning from summer breaks.

Desktop PCs are usually the last consideration when heading away on a summer holiday, and users often neglect to disconnect their PCs while away on a summer break, on some occasions even leaving them switched on. Once home again, users may also forget to download the latest patches against new viruses before they start surfing the web again, which may lead to potential virus threats.

“It’s easy to overlook the key issue of network security when going away for the summer, especially when it’s coupled with the excitement of getting away for a well-deserved break. However, remembering to update all PCs throughout the home with the latest antivirus software is vital to protecting stored information and attacks from viruses,” said Justin Doo, MD, Trend Micro in the Middle East and Africa.

Virus activity in the Middle East recently rose to a 22-month high. Analysts say that this could be because IT managers and home computer users became less focused on the need to regularly update their antivirus software, after a quiet period in the early months of the year.
