NEW YORK, 10 August 2005 — Mark Grudzielanek homered, drove in a career-high five RBIs and scored the go-ahead run to power the St. Louis Cardinals to an 8-4 win over the Milwaukee Brewers in National League play at Miller Park on Monday.

Tied 4-4 in the eighth, Abraham Nunez singled to center to bring home Grudzielanek, who had reached on fielders choice and stole second.

So Taguchi followed with an RBI ground-rule double scoring Nunez.

Grudzielanek then capped off his career night by adding two insurance runs in the ninth when he singled home David Eckstein and Albert Pujols.

Randy Flores (2-1) worked one inning of scoreless relief to earn the win, while Matt Wise (4-4) took the loss tagged for two runs on two hits in one inning.

In Chicago, Ken Griffey Jr. cranked a three-run homer and Brandon Claussen tossed seven shutout innings in leading the Cincinnati Reds to 9-4 win over the Cubs.

Adam Dunn smacked his 33rd home run of the season and Austin Kearns also went deep for the Reds, while Javier Valentin contributed three RBIs.

Claussen (7-8) was dominant, scattering just two hits while striking out three and walking five to notch his third straight decision. Jerome Williams (3-5) was saddled with the loss, rocked for seven runs on seven hits in 5 1/3 innings of work.

In Denver, Danny Ardoin belted a two-run homer and Byung-Hyun Kim tossed six strong innings as the Colorado Rockies completed a doubleheader sweep of the Florida Marlins with a 5-3 win.

With the game deadlocked 3-3 in the sixth inning, Ardoin stepped to the plate and took Ismael Valdez over the wall for his third homer of the season, putting the Rockies in front to stay.

Ryan Shealy went three-for-three and drove in a run, the Rockies sweep giving them six wins in their last eight contests.

Kim (3-8) allowed three runs on five hits in six innings to take credit for the win, while Brian Fuentes came on in the ninth to record the final three outs and his 18th save.

Valdez (1-1) took the loss after surrendering five runs and 10 hits in six innings.

In the opening game, Dustan Mohr slammed an 11th inning solo home run to lift the Rockies to a 4-3 win.

Scott Dohmann (1-1) took credit for the win, working two innings of shutout relief, while De Los Santos (1-1) was tagged with the loss.

Shealy and Cory Sullivan each contributed two hits and an RBI to the Rockies effort.
