JEDDAH, 11 August 2005 — Makkah Governor Prince Abdul Majeed yesterday announced plans to establish a college of technology in the region as part of the government’s efforts to provide young Saudis with advanced education and training.
He made this announcement while meeting with a group of 18 outstanding Saudi university students picked for an excursion to Brazil. Organized by the Saudi Science Club, the program takes place from Aug. 12 to Sept. 2.
Prince Abdul Majeed, who is chairman of the club, emphasized the role of talented youth in promoting the development of any country.
“Empowering Saudi people with science and knowledge is the first step toward achieving their cultural and intellectual development,” the governor told the gathering.
Prince Abdul Majeed urged all officials to take care of talented Saudi youth at private and public educational institutions to make use of them.
He wished the students every success in their scientific trip and urged them to become good ambassadors of their country.
The program includes visits to factories of aircraft, automobile, pharmaceutical and electronic companies as well as research centers specializing in cancer, nuclear power stations and meetings with scientists and their counterparts from Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Bras?lia universities.
The Saudi students will also deliver speeches at Brazilian universities on King Fahd’s achievements during his 23-year reign and the efforts of King Abdullah and Crown Prince Sultan to take Saudi Arabia to new heights of progress and prosperity.
