JEDDAH, 17 August 2005 — The Makkah governorate has warned establishments and individuals against sticking billboards and flyers on doors and walls of houses as well as car windows or distributing them at traffic intersections.

In a statement issued yesterday, the governorate said those who fail to heed the warning will be dealt with severely. It urged private establishments, including schools and clinics, to advertise their products and services in a proper manner without defiling people’s property.

Acting Makkah Mayor Jamal Hariri said the municipality will launch a campaign against this “uncivilized” practice in coordination with other government agencies. He said Saudi Telecom Company will be instructed to disconnect telephones of defaulters.
