RIYADH, 21 August 2005 — A 111-year-old Saudi Arabian woman was granted an identity card by the civil registry of a governorate in the country’s east, said a statement issued yesterday by the registry. The registry in Al-Ahsa said in its statement that it also presented the unidentified woman with a commemorative plaque. Several state agencies do not recognize the ID’s, and require that a male relative speak on a given woman’s behalf.
