JEDDAH, 28 August 2005 — Saudi husbands thought that easier days were on the horizon with the 15 percent salary increase; their happiness, however, did not last long. Saudi wives, in a message circulated by cell phones, are now demanding that their husbands increase their monthly allowance by 15 percent, Al-Madinah newspaper reported. Children have also asked parents to increase their daily allowance from SR3 to SR5. One Saudi wife demanded a SR200 increase in her monthly allowance — from SR800 to SR,1000.
