PUNE, 20 September 2005 — After the violence and mayhem during the 34 hours immersion procession of Hindu deity Ganesh, the city was limping back to normalcy, but police reinforcements remained on active duty as a precautionary measure. The Hindu activists of the organizations indulged in rioting, arson, assault and stone pelting in protest against the ban imposed by the Supreme Court against the use of loudspeakers and musical instruments between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. While the festival went off peacefully in Bombay and the Konkan region, the situation was tense in Pune, Solapur, Aurangabad, Jalna, Nanded, Parbhani, Amravati, Buldhana, Yavatmal, and Nagpur.
