KARACHI, 26 September 2005 — At least 45 people have been killed in two separate accidents at Sann and Khanot areas between Hyderabad and Sehwan town in southern Pakistan, sources said.
The first accident occurred at a bridge near Sann about 100 km from Hyderabad, when a bus of Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences collided with another bus coming from the opposite direction. Thirty-seven people died and 60 others were injured.
According to the eyewitnesses 32 dead bodies were removed from the ill-fated buses. Dozens of critically injured passengers were shifted to Civil Hospital Hyderabad and Jamshoro.
Eight other people were killed and 33 injured in another head-on collision early yesterday between two minibuses barely 10 km from the scene of the first crash.
Fire erupted in the two buses after the collision. According to the survivors several passengers trapped in the buses after the accident were burned alive.
Negligent overtaking caused both the accidents.
