BHOPAL, 6 October 2005 — Madhya Pradesh, the central Indian state, is poised to attract foreign direct investments to the tune of Rs.100,000 million ($2.3 billion). The credit of this goes to Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Babulal Gaur, who on his maiden visit to the United States of America and the United Kingdom created this possibility by allaying misgivings among the prospective investors about investment in the state. The NRIs of the origin of Madhya Pradesh have also expressed their commitment to invest in the state. He assured the foreign investors to invest in Madhya Pradesh saying that the state offers all requisite facilities for investments.

Addressing a crowded press conference here on Monday Gaur said that according to initial discussions with the prospective investors, investments worth Rs.50,000 million ($1.13 billion) have been possible in power sector, Rs. 30,000 million ($682 million) in engineering and auto parts manufacturing, Rs. 10,000 million ($227 million) in hospitality sector, Rs.5000 million ($114 million) in steel industry, Rs. 4,000 million ($91million) in chemical industry and IT sector and about 1000 million ($23 million) in technical education and employment.

It may be noted here that Gaur led a delegation to attend the Focus India Conference and Exhibition organized by the Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) with the support of Federal Ministry of Commerce and Industrial Policy and Promotion and the Federal Ministry of External Affairs at Chicago. The delegation visited London and New York and called upon renowned industrialists and NRIs urging them to invest in the state.
