ABHA, 2 August 2006 — Yemeni news anchor, Maha Al-Boraihi, got the ax from her job for refusing to telecast a romantic program that was scheduled to follow a grim news segment on the Israeli attacks on the Lebanese and Palestinian people, the daily Al-Watan reported yesterday, citing Al-Sawah Net.

Al-Boraihi expressed her revulsion at the idea of featuring a passionate love theme directly after the heart-rending scenes of children’s bodies being reduced to ribbons of flesh amid rubble. Instead, she demanded that a program should follow that suits the previous sad scenes.

Criticizing her producers for “featuring amorous adventures” while Lebanon burns, she called her discharge “an honor,” and an opportunity to suffer in some small way as her Arab brethren suffer more acutely.
