JEDDAH, 5 August 2006 — The executive members of the Jeddah-based Pakistan Repatriation Council (PRC) lauded the Bangladesh court ruling to stop the eviction of stranded Pakistanis from the camps in Mirpur Section 12.
The Dhaka municipality were to demolish the camps after the eviction. The Stranded Pakistanis General Repatriation Committee (SPGRC) went to court on July 3 when the Dhaka authority advised the eviction of camps at Mirpur.
The Dhaka High Court directed the local municipal authorities to stop any action against the camps until the stranded Pakistanis were properly settled, according to a PRC press release.
PRC convener Ehsanul Haque renewed appeal to Pakistan President Gen. Pervez Musharraf and Bangladesh Prime Minister Khaleda Zia to meet and resolve the issue of stranded Pakistanis.
Haque also urged the Bangladesh prime minister to start supplying 3kg of wheat per family per month as was done in the past. The supply was stopped in January last year. Electricity and water supply too were disconnected due to nonpayment of pending bills.
He also urged Gen. Musharraf to reactivate the Rabita Trust and to initiate the process of repatriation, which was frozen in October 2001. PRC also urged the Pakistani High Commission in Dhaka to ensure protection of life of stranded Pakistanis at the camps in Bangladesh.
The PRC executive members include Hamid Islam Khan, Abdul Qayyum Waseq, Muhammad Jamil Rathore, Shahid Nayeem, Maqboolur Rahman Abbasi, Aslam Tanwir, Aftab Hussain, Faheemuddin, Akhtar Siddiqui, Muhammad Laique, Lateefur Rahman, Ariz Monawar, Naseem-e-Sehar and Mahtab Ahmad.
