JEDDAH, 13 August 2006 — Amusement park attendees were less than amused after a roller coaster for small kids at a park on Jeddah’s Corniche grinded to a mid-ride halt, leaving passengers, all women and children, screaming for someone to save them, the Okaz daily reported yesterday. Fortunately the riders were rescued with no incident after the mechanical malfunction was repaired. Municipal officials then closed down the ride and launched an investigation into the cause of the malfunction.
Car for Repair Ends Up Getting Sold
JEDDAH, 13 August 2006 — Muhammed Abdullah learned the hard way that not all car mechanics are honest: By leaving all of his registration papers in his vehicle while it was in the shop for repairs, the Okaz daily reported yesterday. The mechanic told Abdullah that the repairs on his car would take a few days. The customer checked back by phone a couple of days later, but nobody answered. He went to the shop to find it closed; a neighboring vendor said the shop had been closed for two days. The irate customer went to the Traffic Department to report the incident and found out that his car had been sold. The traffic officials advised that next time the man should keep the title of his vehicle in safekeeping — as in: Not in the glove compartment of the vehicle, but rather in a file inside his home.
