DAHRAN AL-JANOUB, 15 August 2006 — A young Saudi farmer had a dream of becoming rich. The one major roadblock to his Midas desires was his stupidity and superstition, according to a report in the daily Al-Watan yesterday. Instead of socking away his savings — thus adhering to the best strategy for building wealth: Taking care of the halalas so the riyals can take care of themselves — this young man decided the best way to get rich was black magic. He approached a charlatan who told him that for a small fee he could make him rich. The young man paid the “black magician” SR6,000 and a sheep and was taken to a burial spot where, according to the self-described sage, a bag containing great treasure was buried beneath the soil. Excited, the young man began digging while the charlatan slipped away. Instead of a great treasure, he found a bag of old, rusty metal pieces.
