BAGHDAD, 19 August 2006 — Jordan has become the first Arab country to have a full ambassador in Iraq since the fall of Saddam Hussein in 2003, the Iraqi presidency said yesterday.
President Jalal Talabani received the credentials of Ambassador Ahmed Al-Lawzi in a ceremony on Thursday and stressed “the need to promote relations with Jordan in all fields,” Talabani’s office said.
While others of Iraq’s Arab neighbors have missions and charges d’affaires in Baghdad, the Kingdom of Jordan is the first to name a full ambassador, Iraqi Foreign Ministry spokesman Khaled Al-Shamari said.
