Signal is launching a drive to increase public awareness and education about the importance of oral health through national programs partnered by the national dental associations in the GCC. To support the drive, Signal has committed itself to fund dental conferences for dental professionals dedicated to public health. Saudi Dental Association and Signal signed the agreement, which marked the commencement of the program in the Kingdom. Present at the signing was Professor Yousef Talic, president of the Saudi Dental Association, Unilever marketing director Ian Potter and the Signal team comprising Khalid Al-Shakshir and Nada Almarhoon. Over the past 14 years, Signal has reached more than five million students in the Gulf through its programs. In 2005 alone, and in association with the Saudi Dental Society, Signal launched the National Dental Hygiene Campaign. “We want to build a long-term enduring relationship with both dental professionals and their patients,” Al-Shakshir said.

Prince Khalid Al-Faisal, president of the Arab Thought Foundation, yesterday announced the launch of the conference’s official website, www.arabstrategies.org. The launch took place at the prince’s office in Riyadh, in the presence of Prince Bandar ibn Khalid Al-Faisal, CEO, Arab Thought Foundation Fifth Conference (Fikr 5), Hamad ibn Abdullah Al-Ammari, conference executive director, general manager of the company and website developer, and others. The Fikr 5 will be held at Habtoor Grand Hotel in Beirut from Dec. 2-3. The theme of the conference is “Arab strategies for the global era.” The conference will focus on energy, investment, media, technology and social responsibility. Bringing together the most intelligent and insightful businessmen and scientists, the foundation aims to develop a long-term strategic plan for Arab nations. The conference also provides a forum to discuss freely and independently the status of Arab world in a global environment,” said Prince Khalid.

Fresh from its success at last month’s reddot design awards, LG Electronics has added another major achievement to its list. This time, the global and regional digital leader was voted by EISA (European Imaging and Sound Association) members in three major categories - European Plasma TV 2006-07, European Digital Video Recorder 2006-07, and European Home Theatre Innovation 2006-07. EISA is described as the largest editorial multimedia organization in Europe with a membership of 54 audio, mobile, electronics, video, and photo publications drawn from 18 European countries. Top officials of LG Electronics received the awards at a ceremony on Friday, at IFA Berlin, described as the world’s largest consumer electronics trade fair, which ends tomorrow. LG’s GM C K Cho said: “These important European awards prove that LG is establishing itself as a fast-growing player in the consumer electronics market.”

MOBILY
Mobily, the Kingdom’s second mobile operator, with its international vendor Huwaie Technologies, is organizing the first 3.5G awareness forum in the Eastern Province on Sept. 9. The forum will include lectures and a workshop of demos on 3.5G. Mobily has issued a public invitation and those interested can attend its Arabic or English sessions and demonstrations free of cost. Mobily and Huwaie executives will give presentations on subjects related to the future of telecom, broadband, the impact of WiMax on mobile and other related issues. 3G was recently introduced to the Kingdom, which has recorded the fastest growing 3G-subscriber base. Mobily, claimed to be the first 3G mobile operator in the Kingdom, now has more than 180,000 subscribers. Mobily announced the launch of the advanced third generation mobile services (3.5G) toward the end of June.
DSL EXHIBIT
DSL Exhibitions, an international property exhibitions company, has announced that the Worldwide Property Show (WPS) will return to Dubai and Bahrain during November, bringing in over 60 international exhibitors showcasing a variety of new projects to a booming regional market. DSL has formalized an agreement with the Bahrain International Exhibition Center, in conjunction with the Bahrain Society of Engineers, to bring the WPS to Bahrain under the auspices of BIPEX 2006, claimed to be Bahrain’s largest real estate exhibition. “The synergy between the two exhibitions will further improve event reach, tapping into a wider property market not only in Bahrain but also Saudi Arabia and the upper Gulf market. Incorporating the WPS into BIPEX 2006 will deliver added depth to the international property on offer,” Shuckri Bundakji, MD, DSL Exhibitions, said.
