RIYADH/JEDDAH, 15 August 2006 — Pakistani expatriates across the Kingdom celebrated their country’s 60th Independence Day yesterday.
Pakistan Ambassador Adm. Shahid Karimullah (retired) unfurled the national flag at a ceremony in Riyadh. He also read out the messages of President Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz.
“Aug. 14 reminds us not only of our past but also shows us a future course to follow in the context of the democratic struggle of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah — a road that leads to an ideal society and a path that takes us to the level which helps to fulfill the aspirations of common people of our beloved country,” the ambassador said.
The president and the prime minister with their clear vision and sheer hard work are today leading the country to the enlightened moderation, progressive democracy, steady economic development and above all modern and contemporary approach to solve the problems of the people.
“Regionally and internationally, Pakistan is well respected for its achievements.,” he said, adding that the Pakistani community in the Kingdom has for decades worked with great zeal and dedication toward the progress and economic development of Saudi Arabia.
At a similar ceremony held in Jeddah, Consul General Masood Akhtar urged the community to be united and work together for the glory, solidarity and prosperity of the country. He said that they should ignore linguistic, regional, racial, political and sectarian differences and work with devotion and dedication according to the tenets of Islam and Sunnah of the Holy Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him).
