MADINAH, 18 August 2006 — A 10-year-old boy was ecstatic when he learned that he won a raffle at an amusement park in Madinah, that is until he received the prize: A box of sanitary napkins. Yippee! According to the Al-Watan daily, the boy won his disappointing prize when his father bought a bunch of amusement ride tickets for the boy. The boy learned that he won the prize at the ticket window. He went with his family to the park’s offices to collect his prize. We at Arab News are unsure what is more disturbing about this story: That a 10-year-old boy won a box of tampons, or that the park actually thought tampons would be a nice prize to give out to anyone at an amusement park. A little advice for the park management: Next time, how about something the whole family can enjoy, like free pizza!
