MUMBAI, 24 November 2006 — Noor Mohammed Khan, a real estate developer, and Liyaquat Ali Khan, a close aide of prime conspirator Yaqub alias Tiger Memon, were yesterday convicted by the designated judge P.D. Kode of the special Terrorists and Disruptive Activities Act (TADA) court for their involvement in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case. Khan was held guilty of storing 58 bags of smuggled RDX explosives in his warehouse that were later used for triggering bomb blasts in Mumbai and later disposing remaining unused bags containing the explosives in a creek. He was also held guilty for possessing RDX for concealing evidence. The judge however acquitted Khan of the charges of conspiracy and Explosive Act due to lack of evidence. The other accused Liyaquat was convicted on the charges of aiding and abetting terrorists’ acts and permitting Tiger Memon and his associates to store 80 cartons of RDX explosives in his warehouse and assisting in the transportation of the explosives to different places in Mumbai. He was also held guilty under the Explosive Substance Act.
