BURAIDAH, 8 August 2006 — In a strange story, a thief here returned a safe containing a number of important documents including valuable title deeds to the owner after he announced a SR10,000 reward to anyone who would return the safe together with the documents, the Al-Jazirah newspaper reported.
The owner explained that there was SR114,000 in the safe but that he was not bothered about the money and was more concerned about getting the documents back. After the man promised not to inform the police, the thief returned the safe together with documents minus the cash. The owner then gave the thief the SR10,000 he had promised.
Sometime later, expensive farm machinery belonging to a friend of the man whose safe had been stolen went missing. Coincidentally, the farmer came to learn that there was a man who was selling cheap farm machinery and so he approached the seller posing as a buyer.After meeting the man he immediately realized that his features were the same as the thief’s who had been described by his friend earlier.
The farmer then wanted to know where the thief had stashed the rest of the farm machinery and told the thief that he was planning on making a bulk purchase.
Thinking he would be able to sell his entire load in one go, the unsuspecting thief took the farmer to a secret place where he was keeping the stolen goods. Unlike his friend, the farmer had informed the police who were following the two men dressed in plainclothes.
At the secret location, the farmer found the bulk of his stolen goods. As police closed in to arrest the thief, the man jumped into a car and tried to make his escape but was stopped in his tracks by the police.
