RIYADH, 22 August 2006 — Bahraini actress Zuhur Hussein has just completed shooting her role in the film “Abu Shalakh Al-Burmai” for Saudi television, the Al-Watan daily reported yesterday.
Saifuddin Subaie directed the film while the cast of the film includes Faez Al-Malki, Hassan Asiri, Abdul Rahman Al-Aqal, Abdul Mohsen Al-Namir, Zahra Arafat, Lamya Tareq, Latifa Al-Miqren.
The film was shot in various locations in the Kingdom, Bahrain and Syria.
Zuhur told Al-Watan that she plays a Bedouin girl named Wadha and hoped that her performance would be a great success.
Syria’s Mowashahat Maestro Dies at 88
DAMASCUS, 22 August 2006 — Syrian singer Sabri Mudallal died at the age of 88 on Sunday after a protracted illness, the Al-Watan daily reported yesterday.
Born in 1918 in the Al-Galoum district in Aleppo in 1918, Mudallal was initiated to the world of music by the famous Syrian devotional singer Omar Al-Batash after he showed exceptional artistic talent while he was very young.
Mudallal was the maestro of Mowashahat, the classical Arabic musical style.
He was the founder of the Al-Turath group, which specialized in singing panegyric poems.
He composed about 40 melodies, which are the most common among panegyric singers in Syria and the Arab world. He has been well known for extemporized singing.
