JIZAN, 28 August 2006 — In a bid to connect with general health workers, Health Minister Dr. Hamad Al-Manie paid a surprise visit to the emergency room at the King Fahd Hospital in Jizan, the Al-Watan daily reported yesterday. While Dr. Al-Manie was wandering around the hospital he entered a surgery room in which a doctor was busy trying to revive the heart of a man involved in a serious car accident. Not knowing who he was, the doctor asked Dr. Al-Manie to leave the surgery room. The health minister however stood still watching thus angering the doctor who called security to see the minister out. Al-Manie then explained who he was and later met the doctor to discuss issues faced at the hospital.
Mother-and-Son Gang Rob Taxi Driver of Phone
JEDDAH, 28 August 2006 — A taxi driver here was robbed by a mother-and-son gang in a classic honey-trap operation, the Al-Madinah newspaper reported yesterday. The African woman’s sweet voice and flirtations caught the attention of the driver who instead of looking ahead kept looking at the woman seated in the back through the rear-view mirror. As the driver began to get hot under the collar, the woman’s son who was seated in the passenger seat, slipped the driver’s cell-phone in his pocket. It was only after the driver had dropped the mother and son off and gone on his way that he realized that his phone was missing.

Father’s ‘Curse’ Kills Abusive Son
HAIL, 28 August 2006 — An embittered father who had suffered years of abuse at the hands of his son cursed him resulting in his immediate death, the Okaz daily reported yesterday. The son recently beat his father black and blue and drove off in the family car leaving the father crying and wailing. Feeling helpless the father went to a police station to report his son and began invoking one curse after another. A few minutes later the police station received a report of a terrible car accident in which a young man had died. It soon transpired that the young man was the son who had just been cursed by his father.
