JEDDAH, 2 April 2006 — Madinah’s famed ballclubs Ohod and Al-Ansar posted lopsided victories on Friday during the second day of Saudi Basketbal League playoffs at the Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Stadium here.
Ohod faced Qadisiya, who defeated them by 21 points last week. It was payback time as a different Ohod team hammered out a 95-71 triumph.
They took charge in the first quarter playing tight defense and fast break basketball. The period ended Ohod 20 Qadisiya 17. Ohod’s Abraham Keyta had a good first half scoring 11 points along with Nervine. Qadisiya’s Ahmed Sementa had 10 and Courtney Fields 7 at the break with Ohod leading 44-28.
Qadisiya appeared worn out after Thursday’s win against Ittihad. They played flat-footed and did not come up with many loose balls and their shooting was off. Ohod led a well-balanced attack and had six players in double figures.
Abdul Mohsen had 22, Abraham Keyta 16, Nervine 14, Waleed Al Medani 11, and two bench players 11 each.
The game’s high scorer was Qadisiya’s Courtney Fields with 23, Ahmed Sementa finished with 11 after sitting most of the second half with four fouls.
Ansar handed Hilal their second defeat in the second game 76-51. Ansar led 17-8 after the first quarter.
Ansar’s ball stealing and shot blocking overpowered Hilal giving the team a halftime lead of 38-21. Ansar’s starters Jules Aw had 14 points and Beyharke Essa 11 when the bench players replaced them in the third period.
Hilal also sent in their reserves and had no one in double figures. Both teams littered the floor with tons of turnovers and missed shots with Ansar winning the battle in the end.
