JEDDAH, 2 April 2006 — The winners in the fifth Prince Faisal ibn Fahd International Award for researches in developing Arab sports will be honored at the awards ceremony today in Riyadh. The ceremony will take place from 8 p.m. at the King Fahd Cultural Center.
The annual event is aimed at encouraging researchers to come up with researches and scientific studies that can develop sports in the Arab countries.
Prince Sultan ibn Fahd, president of General Presidency of Youth Welfare thanked Governor of Riyadh Prince Salman ibn Abdulaziz for supporting the event.
According to the SPA the scientific researches committee had received 42 studies in three languages namely Arabic, English and French.
This year’s winning entries covered topics in training the sport fields, sports in schools and sports administration.
The first prize of SR100,000 was shared by the pair of Dr. Ghazi Jumaa and Dr. Amro Talaba. Their winning research was titled “Toward a Development at the Technical Committees in Training at the Arab Football for Youth Sectors.”
Another SR100, 000 was given to the second prize winners in Dr. Ameen Al-Khouli and Dr. Jamaal Al-Shafii for their study and suggestions to enhance sports in school. Dr. Saif ibn Jumaa claimed the third prize of SR30,000 for his study, which was related to the sport administration.
Ibn Jumaa spoke about the obsoleteness of the basic sports law given the latest economic developments at the professional Arab football clubs using the example and experience of Tunisia.
Prince Nawaf ibn Faisal, deputy-president of the GPYW, president of the supreme committee and president of the secretary-generals at this award, assured the presence of Prince Salman as a sign of his support for the Arab sport development.
He also said that Prince Salman is an avid supporter to the youth and to the sport not only on a local scale but to the Arab sports in general.
