JEDDAH, 3 April 2006 — The Disabled Children Association (DCA) kicked off on Saturday its third annual “Try the Wheelchair” awareness program at the King Abdul Aziz University and the other colleges of Jeddah.

The weeklong program allows the physically able to experience what it would be like to move around by wheelchair and aims to develop empathy for the disabled.

Last year the program took place at various shopping malls in the Kingdom with the participation of famous artists and athletes. The program will take place this week in ever city with a DCA branch: Riyadh, Jeddah, Makkah, Madinah, Jouf and Hail.

In Makkah, the program will take place for a second year at Umm Al-Qura University. “The entire academic and administrative staff as well as students will participate in the program,” said Najla Fakhruddeen Ridah, director of DCA-Makkah. “Disabled children from the association will also attend.”

The program will start today in the women’ colleges and will run until the end of the week. The men will get to experience life on wheels the following week.
