JEDDAH, 4 August 2006 — Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah sent a cable yesterday to Crown Prince Sultan, deputy premier and minister of defense and aviation, thanking the crown prince for his July 22 cable that congratulated the king on his first year anniversary. In the cable, the king expressed thanks to the crown prince for his brotherly sentiment and prayed to almighty Allah to help him and others in the government in discharging their duties and obligations the way the founder of the Kingdom the late King Abdul Aziz envisioned.

"We have undertaken to do our best to serve our religion and to establish security and stability and the welfare of our people and working on the bringing about peace in the region despite the challenges that face us," the king said in his letter. "It is also our duty to uproot the terror and wickedness and stand up against all the followers of deviant thoughts attempting to the play with the security and stability of the country."

In the July 22 cable the crown prince expressed his support for the king's efforts to curb extremism and deviant ideology in the country.

"You have taken upon yourself the historical responsibility of fulfilling the hopes and desires of the people and following the path taken by the late King Abdul Aziz," Crown Prince Sultan said in his communiquŽ.

July 22 is the date of the king's anniversary in the Islamic calendar. The Gregorian date for the king's anniversary is Aug. 1., Saudi Press Agency reported.
