TAIF, 5 April 2006 — A lost abaya and a prideful father left a 4th grader at school with no one to pick her up, the daily Al-Madinah reported. The father of the girl refused to allow is daughter into the car because she had lost her abaya, which would have forced the father to suffer the cruel indignity of having to take his ten-year-old daughter home without the safety of a black piece of fabric covering her head. Teachers called the police after it became apparent that the father would refuse to take his daughter home. A peacekeeping officer took the initiative of buying an abaya for the girl. Since the father’s pride was saved from utter public humiliation by a thoughtful cop, he agreed to take his girl home - but not before accusing school officials of stealing the girl’s veil.
