MAKKAH, 5 April 2006 — A man arrested on drug charges got in deeper trouble with the law when an associate of his tried to deliver to him drugs right inside a court of law, the daily Al-Watan reported. The associate came into a courtroom where his friend was awaiting a hearing on drug charges, delivering a box. He told police that the box contained shoes. Upon inspection, police found that the box indeed contained shoes. Upon closer inspection, police found that the shoes indeed contained Captagon pills, the commercial name for the stimulant fenetylline that is illegal in Saudi Arabia and commonly abused by persons addicted to speed. The associate had already escaped by the time police found the stash, but the detained man received additional drug charges for receiving the drugs.
