JEDDAH, 11 April 2006 — The Education Ministry held a one-day symposium on Sunday at the Baraem Al-Watan Private School to discuss special methods used to teach autistic children.
More than 150 special-education experts attended the symposium. The Girls Autism Program of Jeddah, part of the Ministry of Education, and Jeddah Center for the Autism, from the Faisaliyah Women’s Charitable Association, participated in the symposium.
“An autistic child cannot understand a large amount of information at a time,” said Hanan Al-Megbil, technical supervisor in Jeddah Center for Autism. “The child reacts better to visual learning by seeing pictures that he can remember better than heard information.”
The event was organized to commemorate the Gulf Autism Day, which took place on April 4, aimed at raising awareness of the condition.
