RIYADH, 11 April 2006 — Saudi Arabia will hire manpower on preferential basis from the earthquake-hit regions of Pakistan, said Pakistan’s labor minister after his meeting with Saudi Minister of Interior Prince Naif.

“He (Prince Naif) has promised to instruct the minister of labor to give priority to the earthquake-affected workers while hiring manpower from Pakistan,” said Khan. Pakistan has set up two vocational training institutes in the areas hit by the earthquake last year. Khan earlier held discussions with the Saudi ministers of health and labor.

Responding to a question about his meeting with Dr. Hamad Al-Mane, Saudi minister of health, Khan said, “Al-Mane showed willingness not only to hire medical personnel from Pakistan but also to purchase pharmaceutical goods and surgical equipment from us.”
