JEDDAH, 13 April 2006 — A training course in cooking and sweetmeat preparation for Saudis is currently being held in the Lebanese capital Beirut. The young men will be recruited by leading hotels in Jeddah on successful completion of the course, which is organized by Abdul Latif Jameel Fund for Vocational Training.
While meeting the 10 selected trainees shortly before they left for Beirut, Mohammed Jameel, president of the Abdul Latif Jameel Community Services Programs, encouraged the trainees “to be a model for others.”
The six-month course will focus on developing English-speaking and behavioral skills in addition to learning the art of cooking and preparing sweetmeats in keeping with latest international standards.
The course is part of the fund’s program to train Saudi youths with the aim of finding them employment.
“The course has been started in response to the increasing demand for qualified cooks in hotels at various levels,” Abdul Rahman Al-Fuhaid, director general of the ALJ Community Services Programs, said.
The fund has offered 1,230 employment opportunities to Saudis through several of its job training courses inside the Kingdom and outside, according to a press release.
