KARACHI, 18 April 2006 — Pakistan’s President Pervez Musharraf yesterday called for improving law and order in the country to boost foreign investment.
Addressing a gathering of Pak-American Business Council here, the president expressed satisfaction over investment in the country adding that the government will take all possible measures to encourage the investors.
Musharraf earlier met Governor State Bank Dr. Shamshad Akhtar at head office of the central bank here. The president emphasized the need for providing more loans in agriculture and micro-finance sectors. He also called for setting up a branch of Khushhali Bank in every district of the country.
Governor and chief minister of Sindh, corps commander and officials of the State Bank were also present in the meeting.
The governor of the central bank briefed the president about her strategy and vision about the banking sector reforms.
Musharraf also met religious and political leaders and asked them to promote unity and demonstrate understanding between different sections of the society. He assured them that the masterminds of the Tuesday’s Nishtar Park attack, which killed 57 people and injured 100 others, will be nabbed soon and will be awarded exemplary punishment.
