JEDDAH, 2 May 2006 — In its support for accelerating the Saudization process in the Kingdom, Abdul Latif Jameel Fund for Training and Development has sent 10 young men to Jordan for training in the rare skills of traditional Islamic decorative arts, according to an ALJ press release.
With the aim of personally verifying the progress of the trainees at the Islamic Arts Center started under Prince Charles Program at Al-Balga University, Mohammed Jameel, president of the ALJ Community Services Programs, recently visited the center. He toured around various faculties of applied arts and sciences. He met the Saudi trainees who are currently undergoing training in Islamic decorative arts involving wood, copper, ceramics and calligraphy.
The acting dean of the center, Munawwar Al-Muhayyad, explained to Jameel the role played by the university and its arts center in preserving traditional Islamic art and promoting modern Islamic arts.
