JEDDAH, 5 November 2006 — Al-Shabab registered a 2-1 victory over Al-Hazem in the Saudi Football League at Prince Faisal ibn Fahd Stadium in Riyadh and vaulted to the top of the league, displacing Al-Ittihad.
Faisal Al-Sultan put Shabab ahead in the 25th minute and Atram doubled it in the 75th minute. Shabab with 15 points from five wins and are level on points with Hilal, who too won yesterday’s against Al-Faisali with striker Yasir Al-Qahtani netting the winner in the 90th minute. Hilal too have 15 points, but are second on goal difference. Al-Hazem remained in ninth place with 6 points and Al-Faisali are tenth with 4 points.
In Dammam, Al-Wehda defeated Al-Ittifaq 1-0 with Naser Al-Shamrani’s 13th minute goal. Wehda jumped to fourth place with 12 points while Ittifaq are in eighth place with 7 points.
On Friday, Al-Ahli suffered an embarrassing defeat against Al-Taie in Hail, losing 4-2. This surprising defeat put the position of Ahli coach in jeopardy as calls to sack him grew. Ahli dropped from fourth place to seventh with 8 points and Taie are fifth with 10 points.
Al-Ittihad, however, had no difficulty in defeating bottom-place Al-Khaleej 2-0 at Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Stadium in Jeddah. Ittihad are in third position with 12 points but have one match in hand.
Al-Nasr recovered against Al-Qadisiya for their third win. Nasr, with the 2-1 victory, are in sixth place with 9 points and Qadisiya are 11th with 4 points.
