SANAA, 12 May 2006 - Yemeni police recaptured yesterday one of the 23 Al-Qaeda suspects involved in a daring jailbreak earlier this year.
Abdullah Yahya Al-Raimi, 29, was apprehended in the eastern province of Marib, bringing to nine the number of escapees who have been caught or surrendered to authorities since the jailbreak in February.
He was arrested in a raid by security forces after police received tip-off about his location, security officials told Arab News.
Raimi has been described as a "dangerous element" who was serving a four-year prison term for forging passports and identification cards. He is also wanted by Swiss authorities for forging documents for the Al-Qaeda terror network. Two of the most dangerous of the 23 who broke out of the Sanaa prison on Feb. 3 remain at large.
They are Jamal Ahmad Al-Badawi, wanted for the attack on the USS Cole carrier in 2000 that killed 17 American sailors, and Fawaz Yahya Al-Rabihi, implicated in the 2002 attack on French oil tanker the Limburg in which one Bulgarian crew member was killed and 12 others wounded. Badawi is on the US list of the world's 10 most wanted terrorists, with a five-million-dollar bounty on his head.
