JEDDAH, 20 May 2006 — A 40-year-old Saudi man took his wife, sisters and aunt hostage in their home, threatening to kill them in a six-hour standoff with local authorities, according to local media reports. Screams from the women inside the flat alerted the neighbors who in turn called the police. Police were able to talk the man into standing down. He was later taken to the police station for questioning in order to determine his motives — besides having a short-temper and a violent disposition.
