LONDON, 29 August 2006 — The Arab British Club and the UK-based Arab Media Watch jointly organized a reception for Syrian actor Ghassan Massoud at the headquarters of the Syrian Arab Society of UK in London recently, the Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper reported yesterday.
Ghassan spoke of his Hollywood experiences while he did the role of Saladin in Ridley Scott’s “Kingdom of Heaven” with Orlando Bloom last year. He stressed the significance of Arab actors taking roles that do not harm Arab or Islamic values while portraying Arab culture.
Ghassan said he planned to return to Hollywood to work in another film shortly. The actor also discussed the need for credibility and comprehensiveness in covering the Arab situation in movies.
Ghada Adel Plays Love Struck Country Girl
CAIRO, 29 August 2006 — Ghada Adel’s latest role in Muhammad Khan’s “Shuqqa Misr Al-Jadida” is about a beautiful country girl falling madly in love with a city youth, who is played by Khaled Abu Naja. The rest of the cast includes Luluba, Ayeda Riyad, Marwa Hussein and Yusuf Dawood.
The rising Egyptian actress was offered the lead role after Hind Sabri and Minna Shelbi refused to act in the film for undisclosed reasons, the Al-Watan daily reported yesterday.
The movie is currently being shot at various sites in Egypt.
