Eva Longoria, Desperate Housewives always fashionable Gabrielle was last seen marching onto a soccer field in wobbly high heels for a confrontational scene with her John (Jesse Metcalfe) who plays her gorgeous gardener — and quite possibly the father of her unborn child. Faced with this pregnancy of uncertain paternity, a husband headed for the slammer and a lawn-boy lover who earns $50 a mow, Gabrielle is more desperate than ever. With the appearance of Season Two on Showtime from May 1st every Monday at 20:00 KSA we caught up with one of the hottest ladies on TV, Miss Eva Longoria.
Has your French improved since dating Tony (Tony Parker: NBA Basketball Player)?
We were just talking about that because we went to a French restaurant and I understood almost everything our table was saying. I’m getting a lot better. I’m nowhere near as good as obviously the dubbing of my character. But I do my L’Oreal commercial in French.
You are getting so much attention right now since the show started. I mean, are you still flattered by that or has it gotten to a point where you wish you had more privacy?
Oh, no the pros far outweigh the cons. I’m very, very flattered by the attention the show gets and the accolades and the recognition. I mean, personally, it is a loss of privacy and anonymity and everybody knows you but I don’t know, I think it is just the price you pay.
Eva, we have just finished Season one in the Middle East can you give us any hints on how Gabrielle is going to change? Is season two more challenging for you?
Season two I have been really blessed. Marc Cherry has written a lot of wonderful things for me. I have a lot of comedic opportunities because of the pregnancy and Gabrielle encounters a lot of obstacles.
How naturally does that comedic side come to you?
Pretty natural. I love comedy and Desperate Housewives gives me a really nice opportunity to play a big range of emotions because we are a dramady.
So your family and friends would describe you as a funny person naturally?
Silly. They would describe me as silly.
Now Gabrielle’s mother is getting in the picture, Maria Conchita Alonzo; right?
Well, she comes in because we are having problems with the pregnancy and that whole episode is actually a really big back story to Gabrielle and what happened to her as a kid. Why she is the way she is.
Do you feel anything in common with the Gabrielle?
No. God no. We are probably the exact opposites. I’m very domestic. I always say I’m desperate to be a housewife.
From which of the housewives do you think you look like the most in real life?
I’m a little bit of Bree, I love to cook, clean and sew and Felicity in the sense of wanting to be a working mom and wanting a big family.
What is it like being one of the youngest cast members?
It is fun; I am actually really blessed because I’m working with these experienced women. They have all had success and this is their second time around.
There is a lot of speculation all the time about the whole cast about their weight. Does that make you very conscious about it?
No, I’m not. I have been actually blessed to be genetically petite. But my reason for working out is health reasons not because I want to be really skinny.
Do you get time to relax and if you do what do you do?
I watch a lot of basketball every day off. It’s funny people say “I don’t know how you and Tony make it work?” I fly home every weekend and during the week. And so if I’m off tomorrow and I fly home for eight hours and I will be home and then I will come right back.
Desperate Housewives has been a huge hit in the Middle East. Has it surprised you how it has been a phenomenon internationally and do you know what the magic is behind the “Desperate Housewives”?
I think it is universal issues that we deal with, divorce and marriage and relationships, kids and neighbours, so I think everybody around the world relates to the show because even though it is not in Dubai that you would see these houses or these women, it’s still the same issue that you would be talking about.
Have you got any time for more movies? I know you have a movie coming out.
I have two movies coming out in April, “Harsh Times” with Christian Bale and “The Sentinal” with Michael Douglas and Kiefer Sutherland. And I’m picking my hiatus movie now.
Is there another person you are really dying to play and star with in a movie?
Oh, God, I have such a wish list because I love comedy and I want to do every romantic comedy with every blockbusting leading guy like Will Farrell, Jim Carey, Ben Stiller and Adam Sandler.
