CAIRO, 4 June 2006 — Egyptian singer Ehab Tawfiq canceled a live interview with radio station “Saot Al-Ghad” (The Voice of Tomorrow) after the artist’s publicists said he was involved in a car accident. Rumors are that the show’s producers are less than understanding of the last-minute cancellation.
On a different note, a concert held by a number of Arab artists in celebration of Yemen’s May 22 National Day was abruptly halted, along with a live broadcast of the event on several music channels.
Chaos broke out in the audience, apparently angry that Tawfiq had finished his performance sooner than expected.
Concert organizers reported that the audience began breaking furniture and throwing garbage, causing $350,000 worth of damage.
Tawfiq is scheduled to release his upcoming album this July, but has already released two singles.
Tawfiq also recently completed filming his latest music video for the romantic song “Alath Kilmit Hub” (The Sweetest Love Word), directed by Yasser Sami.
