RIYADH, 4 June 2006 — A geologist from Mahd Ad-Dahab has received an award for his remarkable contribution to the mining industry.
The Saudi mining company Maaden awarded Ayman Siraj Badirah the first ever President’s Award for his work in developing a plan that resulted in the discovery of new reserves at the Mahd Ad-Dahab mine.
Badirah was not informed of the award and had come to Riyadh to deliver a paper. “I was only instructed to show up in Riyadh to do a presentation but to receive the first Maaden President’s Award is really amazing,” Badirah told Arab News.
In a unique but simple ceremony held at Maaden’s head office, senior executives acknowledged Badirah’s work saying that the geologist’s contribution in advancing mine-exploration will extend the Mahd Ad-Dahab mine’s lifespan.
Dr. Abdallah E. Dabbagh, president and CEO of Maaden, handed Badirah a fat check, a Rolex watch and a certificate of recognition.
The President’s Award was set up with an aim of recognizing outstanding individual performance and initiatives of employees at Maaden.
