JEDDAH, 6 September 2006 — Diving instructors affiliated to the Desert Sea Divers (DSD) held a meeting at the Obhur Dive Village to discuss the up and coming sea cleanup project that is to start on Sept. 14.
A group of 45 divers from Jeddah, Riyadh, Dhahran and Khamis Mushayt are going to dive into the Red Sea to undertake cleaning operations to mark the annual International Cleanup Day organized by the Project Aware Foundation.
DSD is participating in the cleanup project for the eighth consecutive year. DSD supervisor Abu Bakr said: “It’s a great and challenging opportunity for our PADI-Dive-Course students to explore and conserve seawater. The Red Sea has always been rated as one of the Top 10 diving destinations in the world. We are trying to keep our sea healthy and clean.”
The Project Aware Foundation works to preserve precious aquatic habitats and protect them for use by future generations. The foundation is an associated partner of the Professional Association of Diving Professionals (PADI).
